¿Conocimientología?
Chaim Zins publicó hace escasos meses un artículo en el Journal of Documentation donde aboga por un cambio de nombre en la disciplina de la Documentación. Él propone que pase a llamarse algo así como Ciencia del Conocimiento o Conocimientología. Su explicación.
[...]even the name “information science” is problematic. If one takes the three related concepts “data”, “information”, and “knowledge” that are embodied in the concept “information science”, one cannot ignore the difficulty. Generally, the three concepts are mutually related. Data is commonly conceived as the raw material for information, which is commonly conceived as the raw material for knowledge.
Knowledge is the highest order construction. If this is the case and ‘information science’ deals with all three, then it should be called “knowledge science”, rather than “information science”. Note that “knowledge science” can explore knowledge and its building blocks, information and data, but “information science” cannot explore knowledge, since the latter is of a higher order.
Viene a decir algo así como que los tres conceptos que conforman la esencia de la information science son datos, información y conocimiento, siendo el último el de superior categoría. Digamos que la disciplina information science no puede ocuparse del conocimiento, ya que éste es de un orden superior, pero que una knowledge science sí podría ocuparse de los conceptos inferiores (información y datos).
Zins presupone que el objeto de estudio de la Documentación es el conocimiento, algo que, me parece a mí, es mucho suponer. A lo largo del artículo entra en cuestiones de tipo filosófico, conocimiento ojetivo, conocimiento subjetivo, etc.
En las conclusiones pega otro hachazo conceptual y afirma
Apparently, information scientists do explore messages (i.e.
meaningful contents). It seems that information science is turning slowly into message science, or rather content science.
Pues eso, por nombres que no quede.
information science ---> knowledge science ---> content science (o message science).
¿Nos inventamos más sciences?
